Getting started with Home Care in Gulf Coast Alabama.

1. How do we know if our loved one qualifies for Serenity Heart's services?

Serenity Heart is a non-medical home care agency, which means we work with people who need help with everyday things — bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, getting to appointments, companionship. If those are the areas where your loved one needs support, we're likely a fit. The clearest way to know is to call and describe what's happening. That conversation costs nothing, and we'll be honest about whether we can help.

No. Families contact us directly all the time — no physician referral required. If a doctor, discharge planner, or case manager has pointed you our way, that's a good starting point, but it isn't a requirement. You can call us today.

No long-term contract. No fixed term. Either party can end the service with 14 calendar days' written notice. There is a minimum of 4 hours of care per week to maintain your loved one's caregiver assignment and continuity of care. If your situation changes, that conversation starts with a direct call to Antonio or Angelia.

Yes — if our schedule allows and we have the right caregiver available. Every new client starts with an in-person assessment before any caregiver is placed, and in urgent situations we move as quickly as we can. Call us and tell us the timeline. We'll tell you honestly what's possible.

5. How are caregivers screened before they're placed in a home?

Every caregiver goes through an employment screening and random drug testing before placement. We do not require formal training credentials — we ask about experience in the field and go from there. The interview matters as much as the screening. We ask one question that tells us a lot: why do you think this job will work for you? The answer determines whether we hire. People who do well in this work are the ones who have a genuine passion for wanting to help — that is not something a certification gives you.

They're employees. Serenity Heart handles payroll, scheduling, and oversight directly — which means when something comes up, you call us and we handle it. There is no middleman between you and the people responsible for your loved one's care.

Tell us. Caregivers are matched carefully — by skills, experience, and personality — but a match on paper is not always a match in the room. If something is not working, we want to know before it becomes a problem. Call Antonio or Angelia directly and we will make it right.

Coverage is not left to chance. Part of being operationally built for 24-hour care means maintaining the staffing to handle callouts and gaps. You will not be making calls at midnight trying to find someone. That is Serenity Heart's job.

How care works day to day.

9. How do we stay informed about what's happening at home when we can't be there?

You reach Antonio or Angelia directly — not a call center or an overnight answering service. Serenity Heart keeps you informed and is reachable when you have a question.

If you are coordinating your loved one’s care from out of town, that direct line matters especially. We treat it that way. See how our Long-Distance Care Management service works specifically for families not on the ground.

Serenity Heart caregivers are non-medical, which means they do not perform clinical procedures. In a medical emergency, the protocol is clear — every caregiver knows it before they ever step foot in a client’s home:

  1. Call 911 immediately — always the first call, no exceptions.
  2. Contact the client’s designated emergency contact.
  3. If unreachable, call Angelia at 251-294-3419.
  4. If unreachable, call Antonio at 251-236-3844.
  5. Accompany the client to the hospital.
  6. Remain until family or management arrives.
  7. Submit a written incident report within 24 hours.

It means your loved one is not a number in a scheduling system. Serenity Heart caps at 50 clients intentionally — not because the agency can't grow, but because beyond that number real personal oversight of every placement becomes impossible. Antonio and Angelia know every client by name. When something changes in your situation, you are not starting over with someone who does not know your family.

Yes — If you have an active client with Serenity Heart, you call our leadership directly. The 50-client cap is what makes that direct access structurally possible — beyond a certain size, no agency can genuinely offer this. Serenity Heart chose to stay within the size where it is real.

13. Is Serenity Heart private pay only right now?

Currently, yes. Serenity Heart accepts private pay — meaning families pay directly for services. We know that's a real constraint for some families, and we'd rather be straight with you about it than have you find out after the assessment. Call us and let's talk through what you're working with. We are actively working to expand the coverage options available.

Poarch Creek tribal members may be eligible for services through the Elder Services program. Call us to find out what applies to your situation — we can walk you through what that looks like practically and what the current eligibility and timing looks like.

We are actively pursuing accreditation for Medicaid, Medicare, and long-term care insurance, with a 2026 target. VA benefits are not currently available — the VA is not accepting new agencies at this time. If you are a veteran or the family of a veteran, call us and we will tell you honestly where things stand.

The fastest way to know where everything stands is to call — we will tell you exactly what is available when you reach us. See the full Payment & Coverage page for a complete breakdown.

About Serenity Heart.

16. What makes Serenity Heart different from the other agencies in this area?

Three things, specifically. First, a mandatory in-person home assessment before any caregiver is placed — because what families write on a form and what is actually happening at home are rarely the same picture. Second, caregivers matched by skill, experience, and personality — not by who is available that day. Third, a cap at 50 clients so that every placement has real oversight. Those are not features that were added. They are responses to specific failures Antonio watched repeat themselves over 20 years in this industry.

We tell you. Serenity Heart will not accept a referral that cannot be served well — that is the same standard held whether the conversation is with a family or a referring physician. If at capacity when you call, we will be honest about the timeline and help you understand your options. We would rather lose the business than compromise the care.
